Sister’s Keeper

Women rights activist and champion for the rights of the disabled in Mombasa, Madam Hamisa Zaja has called for unity and solidarity in order to help the less fortunate in the wake of the corona virus outbreak in Kenya.

In a statement to Gilitics Media, Zaja explained her most recent initiative dubbed “Sister’s Keeper” where she urged well wishers to help women of Mombasa whose livelihoods have been adversely affected during this time. Her initiative mainly targets fish mongers and those with mini grocers who have been affected mainly by the curfew since they mostly work during the early hours of the night where the curfew begins.

Zaja has undertaken numerous food drives all over the county with her foundation, “Green Movement” and is seeking more assistance from the corporate entities and those personally willing to partner with her in her efforts to help the women of Mombasa.

Furthermore, Zaja has been been vocal in sensitizing the community, especially the youth on the importance and need to adhere to the directives issued by the government and county governments on how to prevent the spread of the corona virus.

As of April 19, the number of confirmed cases in Mombasa has risen to 47 with the national tally standing at 270 and 14 fatalities so far.
