Pwani Innovation Week 2022 official launch

The Pwani Innovation Week was officially launched today with a host of dignitaries gracing the event. Among those in attendance were ICT Minister Joe Mucheru, ICT guru Bitange Ndemo and the Belgian ambassador to Kenya Peter Maddens among others.

The much anticipated launch was attended by eager innovators and tech-preneurs from all over Mombasa County and the country at large.

Various startups and corporates have set up camp at the Swahili Pot Hub premises looking forward to showcase their ideas in the tech sector.

Attendees at the events were able to explore the various tents set up at the premises, and got a chance to learn and be inspired by the exhibitions.

Mombasa County ICT Chief Executive Commissioner, Anwar Ahmed lauded the event, terming it a great way to showcase the strides the County Government has made in tech, as far as encouraging children and youth.

“A lot of innovations have made it possible for effective service delivery for the residents of Mombasa. We have gone as far as encouraging digital transition for places such as the Akamba Handicraft, to showcase their wares online.” Said Anwar.

“So much effort has been made towards making make Mombasa a technology hub, we need to leverage on these opportunities to enable youth to prosper.” He added.

Speaking at the launch, the guest of honor, Kenya ICT Minister, Joe Mucheru recognized the efforts made by Mombasa youth in championing and nurturing innovation through technology and the arts.

He urged youth to take up the challenge of becoming self reliant, in matters to do with technology, especially with the resources available to them at the moment, such as the 5G internet.

“We do not have to implement systems that are used by other developed countries which they later sell it to us at high costs. Let’s use the available platforms and learn from those who have made it in tech to help us achieve our own,” said Mucheru.

The Belgian ambassador to Kenya Peter Maddens, emphasized on the importance of leveraging on the creativity and innovation that Kenyan youth have, to drive innovation and business.

The event is ongoing, and youth have been encouraged to come and network with like minded individuals and professionals as they embark on their tech journey. It will culminate with the Pwani Got Talent showcase, where talented youth will be able to put their talents on display.
