Moroto Water Project Launch by Rotary Club of Mombasa

The Rotary Club of Mombasa on Saturday launched the Moroto Water Project aimed at providing free and clean water to the residents of the Moroto area in the Tudor ward, Mvita sub-county.

In a function graced by Mombasa county governor, Ali Hassan Joho, area Member of Parliament, Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, and County Executive Member in Charge of Water and Sanitation, Taufiq Balala, the club handed over the maintenance and servicing of the borehole to the county government.

The Ksh2.5M project was undertaken by the Rotary club in conjunction with the Mombasa Maize Millers and has been drilled at the Mary Cliff Primary School, with the necessary infrastructure put in place to reach the 15000 residents of the Moroto area, most of who reside in informal settlements.

Speaking at the event, area MP Abdulswamad thanked all those who made the project a success and used the platform to heralded the diversity of the Moroto area terming the Tudor ward as being the “most cosmopolitan area of in the county” while promising to bring up more development projects in the area.

Hon. Joho thanked the administration of the Mary Cliff School for allowing the borehole to be drilled on their property and called it a noble way of getting involved with the community calling for them to find more and more ways to be involved with the locals for the benefit of the society.

Through a press release, the Rotary Club of Mombasa acknowledged that the appointment of Rotarian Abdul Samji as chair of the Mombasa County COVID-19 Emergency Response Program prompted them to act accordingly to offer aid to the needy people in the county as they fight the pandemic.

Residents of Moroto welcomed the project and praised the efforts by the Rotary Club and Mombasa Maize Millers to making their life a bit easier. The club will continue to drill more boreholes around the county as a way to show their commitment to promote efficient Corporate Service Responsibility.
