Headlined by Lands Cabinet Secretary, Farida Karoney, the officials visited the three acre property that the residents, through the help of the MP, were awarded by a court ruling.

The piece of land is among other pieces of land in Mwakirunge, Shanzu and Kadzandani  where Mbogo had pushed for them to bet awarded to the residents and assured them title deeds when he came in to office.

“We fought in court for this land and we won the case. As I promised, my office shall work with the Lands Ministry to make sure that everyone receives title deeds before December.” Mbogo said.

While making his ambition to vie for Mombasa governor in 2022, Mbogo appreciated the government’s determinatipon to end the squatter problem in Mombasa and asked the people to vote for him come the elections.

Karoney lauded the effort that the MP and the residents made to make sure they win the court case, which she said now makes their work easier as all they are left to do is to subdivide the land.

However, she cautioned the residents against selling their land as soon as they receive the title deeds saying that “there is no reason to sell their land since Mombasa is strategically placed with the port being expanded, the Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone being created and the SGR which makes the land value go up.”

The cabinet secretary also promised to try and persuade the President to come and issue the title deeds to the people of Manoni since he was the one who gave the directive that they be given their title deeds.

The Coast has for many years been faced with issues of land disputes due to absentee landlords and land grabbing by wealthy individuals, with the ministry trying to settle such disputes over the past couple of years.
