Women of Magogoni ward, Kisauni Sub-county, led by their matron Ms. Everlyne Ochieng alias mama Eva, came together to donate sanitary pads to young girls of kwa mtumwa village.

Chanting the slogan “Mama jukumu letu” the women have taken it upon themselves to educate girls in Kisauni on matters concerning female hygiene and abstinence from sex.
Speaking to the girls, Ms. Ochieng emphasized that they focus more on their education, and avoid being coerced in to early sex, especially by Boda-boda riders.
“Make sure you protect yourselves. Be aware of these men who cheat you with their small money and gifts just to ruin your life in the end” she said.
Ms. Ochieng also called for the continued support of the girl child through creation of mentorship programs to offer them advice in order to make their dreams a reality.

In recent times Kisauni has had an increase in the number of teenage pregnancies which many have blamed on the poor living conditions of many of the residents.
It is believed than many young girls in the area are lured by the boda-boda riders who give them a bit of money to purchase pads.
The lobby group also challenged the women Rep and other organizations who have the capacity to support the girls with such donations to come forward and help their mission towards empowering the young girls.
