2000 Benefit From NHIF Cover In Mvita

Mvita constituency Member of Parliament, Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, has made a bold statement in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic! Speaking at a news conference in Mombasa two days ago, the MP has pledged all his salary along with help from the Constituency Development Fund to procure NHIF medical cover for the less fortunate in his constituency.
The NHIF contribution is targeted to benefit up to 2000 vulnerable families in his constituency and the cover includes treatment for the the Corona virus infections among other ailments.
Shariff Nassir spoke against the stigmatization of the corona virus urging people of Mombasa to desist from spreading false information and propagating negative narratives about the disease. He warned that the virus is real and that the threat it poses is real as well therefore, Mombasa residents should accord the pandemic the seriousness it deserves.
The contribution of Ksh.12M was issued through the Mvita CDF to the Mombasa County Emergency Committee established by the Governor, Hassan Ali Joho.
The MP also outlined a number of legislative actions he seeks to bring to Parliament regarding the allocation of CDF funds to the distribution of food across the country, tax laws specifically about the VAT and also the lowering of the power bills in order to lessen the strain on people’s finances during this period.
As of April 21, the number of corona virus infections in Mombasa has risen to 61 as the Ministry of Health warning that Mombasa residents need to brace themselves for the worst should they continue to take things lightly. The national tally for confirmed cases now stands at 296.
